I am from Lower Austria. I am a painter, theater painter, and knife maker and live with my family in a village next to the Danube River.
At 15, I began an apprenticeship and job as a land surveyor for a number of years - there I walked the rural region and learned how to chart much of the landscape near my home. Work as a facade painter and a graphic artist for magazines and advertising followed in my early adult years. At this time I attended courses in life drawing and sculpture.
When our first child was born, I became a theater painter for the Vienna State Opera and the national theaters in and outside Austria. For 10 years I had the honor of learning and working alongside many highly accomplished artists and painted everything from huge scenic backdrops on the floors, to murals, to props and sets. I love craftmanship and also employed the techniques of the theater such as tromp lóeil, faux finishing, gilding, etc.
For health reasons I left this work in 2016 and have since turned mostly to landscape painting of the surroundings near my home and of my travels to Michigan. As a knife maker, I enjoy immensely the handwork of combining wood, steel, and leather into tools for the outdoors. I live with my wife, who is from Michigan, and our two children in a village by the Danube River.
